Belogradchik municipality
Geographical characteristics
Belogradchik municipality is situated in north- western part of the country in northern and north- eastern slopes of Old mountain close to our state boundary with Serbia. The municipality is bounded on the north, east and south with municipalities of Makresh, Dimovo and Chuprene. Its territory covers 411 km² 198 km² of which are forests. The distance between Belogradchik and Sofia is 180 км, and 55 км from our region city- Vidin. Present water resources on the municipality’s territory are formed from surface and underground waters. Rivers Archar and Stakevska are surface and they takes their source from St. Nikola situated in Old mountain and flows in river Danube.

According to the territorial division of Republic Bulgaria Belogradchik municipality consists of 1 town – Belogradchik and 17 villages.
The population of the municipality is 8027 people (till 31.12.2002). Its demographical indicators are very low. Most of the people are ageing. The worse demographic structure and the high level of unemployed predetermines the characteristic of the municipality.

Transport
The municipality of Belogradchik is with low transport equipment. Only automobile transport is developed there. The opening of new border point will stimulate the economic and tourists connections of Belogradchik municipality with the other countries.

Telephones
Telephones, telexes and fax services are accomplished by three automatic central telephone exchange – in Belogradchik and villages of Stakevtsi and Rabisha. There are 3 700 telephones in Belogradchik.

Drainage system
I the municipality of Belogradchik the drainage system includes mountain and river water suppliers. Constructed drainage system have only Belogradchik and the village of Rabisha.

Electricity
Belogradchik municipality is electrically supplied by Republican electricity system with 110 / 20 Кv. There are no regions without electricity.

Transport
The road network of the municipality consists of third and fourth class roads.

Education
The municipality educational system contains:
  • preschools – KG in Belogradchik and Rabisha ;
  • schools – HSC “Hristo Botev”, TCHSC (Technical communication high school), “A. S. Popov”, PSC (Primary school) “Vasil Levski”, situated in Belogradchik and PSC “Vasil Aprilov” in Rabisha village.

    Culture
    There are some cultural centres on the territory of the municipality of Belogradchik . Community centre “Razvitie” is one of them as well as art gallery and public museum.

    Economy
    General aspects in the region industry development are:
  • Nomenclature restoration of produced products in Phone factory – Belogradchik including assembling new mobile phones (third generation);
  • Production development of rock and facing material for base construction of existing resources in Granitovo village.

    Agriculture
    In the municipality of Belogradchik there are 197 237 000 m² used land 129 302 000 m² of which are cultivable. In the region there are optimum conditions for cultivating wine, raspberry and strawberry plantations.

    Tourism
    Nature facts (Belogradchik Rocks, The cave Magura and other) are real strategic priority for expression of the municipality’s tourist market. Tourism is one of the main factors for economic renovation for the region.

  • Supporting municipality’s service and nature at level as to guarantee high quality live to all citizens in the municipality;
  • Encourage economy as creating new working places and income sources while using the unique nature and climate facts of the region;
  • Partnership between public and private sector between governmental and non governmental sector.
