Geographical characteristics Chuprene Municipality is located in the northwestern part of the country, on the northern and northeastern slopes of the Balkan mountain, near the state border with Serbia. To the north, east and south it borders with Belogradchik, Ruzhinci and Chiprovtsi. The municipality centre – Chuprene is located 175 кm far from the capital Sofia and 75 кm far from the region centre- Vidin. Chuprene Municipality includes eight towns and villages- Gorni Lom, Dolni Lom, Replyana, Targovishte, Varbovo, Sredogriv and Protopopintsi with municipality centre – the village of Chuprene. The available water resources on the territory of the municipality are formed by surface water. Human Resources The total number of the population in the municipality by demographic data until 31.12.2000г. is 3125 people, 1535– male and 1680- female. Transport The municipality is relatively far from the big towns. The republican road network is with total length 62.9 кm, 33 кm of them are third class and 29.9 кm are forth class. Telephones The telephone connections are realized by three automatic telephone operators in the villages Chuprene, Gorni Lom and Dolni Lom. Water supply and canalization All the populated places in the municipality have water supply network. In some of them a canalization network is built up particularly as well. Electricity All the villages in the municipality are electrifyied. The municipality educational system of Chuprene municipality consists of: Preschool establishments– kinder garden in Chuprene and kinder garden in Gorni Lom. There are two primary schools- in Chuprene and in Gorni Lom. Health Care Two general practice doctor practices are registered on the territory of the municipality. The health service in Chuprene, Gorni Lom and Dolni Lom are in good condition. There are equipped rooms for doctor’s examination in the rest of the villages. Cultural and social life Four community centers function on the territory of Chuprene municipality. The original culture of the population can be seen at folk art assemblies in which, the community centers from Chuprene and Gorni Lom, participate regularly Energetics There are four hydroelectric stations built up on the territory of the municipality, with total power of 6 megawatts, included in the united national circle. They function on local resources, which are small in regional aspect. Industry The biggest enterprise in the municipality is the plant for explosives in the village of Gorni Lom. The plant produces explosives for ore- dressing, coal industry and for construction works. The plant is privatized. Agriculture The conditions in the region respond for production of ecological products. Private farming is at its beginning at the moment, small farms are built up. Tourism rich natural gifts are available in the municipality, which do not step back for the famous Bulgarian resorts. There are excellent possibilities for mountain tourism. |
