Geographical characteristics
Dimovo Municipality is consistant part of Region Vidin. Its area is 13,3% of the territory of the Region. It borders with other 6 municipalities– Vidin, Belograchik, Ruzhintsi, Makresh and Chuprene and Lom municipality from Region Montana. The center of the municipality – the town of Dimovo is 180 кm far from the capital Sofia, 35 кm from the town of Vidin, 18 кm from the town of Belogradchik and 70 кm from the town of Montana. 4 affluents of the Danube river pass through the territory of the municipality- the rivers Archar, Skomlyanska, Belshtitsa and Lom. There are 6 dam lakes on the territory of the municipality– in the villages Varbovchets, Yarlovitsa, Shipot and Skomlya and two dam lakes in the area of village Oreshets.
The Municpality consists of 45 settlements – the town of Dimovo and 23 villages.
The total number of the population in Dimovo Municipality until 31.03.2001 is 8882 inhabitants; of them 4270 are males and 4612 females.
The ethnic composition is comparatively homogenic– 83% Bulgarian, 16.65% Roma, 0, 27% Turkish и 0, 06% Russians. 1738 persons in the municipality are officially registered as unemployed. 839 of them are female. The unemployed young people up to 24 years of age are 308 or 17, 7%. This percentage tends to increase. Constantly unemployed persons are 1411. the level of unemployment, calculated on the base of economically active population for May 2001 according to the representative information of the Labour Bureau- Belogradchik is 54,8% - the highest in the region and one of the highest in the country.
Priorities for development of the municipality
• Ensuring economic rate on the base of well developed agriculture and built up manufacturing industry.
• Carrying out the technical infrastructure according to the requirements of the stage of development through attracting finances from outer sources, funds and programs, private capital etc.
• Creating new system of social infrastructure in the characteristic conditions for the municipality and with the available resources, considered with the opportunities and according to the needs of the population.
• Conservation, protection and improvement of the environment.
