Novo selo municipality is situated at the most north- western point in Republic Bulgaria. It is 25 km from Vidin. The municipality is near Republic Serbia and is bounded by Romania with river Danube. Three of the populated areas are on the river Danube and the other two are bounded by Vidin municipality and Bregovo municipality. Total area of the municipality’s territory is 111 km². The frontier for Bulgaria river Danube is frontier for Novo selo municipality too.
Novo selo municipality consists of 5 populated areas and all of them are villages.
The municipality’s administration counts 29 units which are divided as follows:
mayor - 1, deputy mayor – 1, administration – 2, department – 4, city- council – 2, mayor representatives - 2.
Human resources
Total number of population of Novo selo municipality till 2001 is 4094, 1941 men and 2153 women. The ethnical structure is relatively homogeneous – 92,8% are Bulgarians and 7,2% gypsies. Novo selo municipality is 25 km from Vidin and 220 km from our capital city – Sofia. The municipality is connected with road transport with all populated areas in the country and border points.
Road network
With inwardly and outwardly meaning is the road network as more important is road Novo selo – Vidin – Montana – Vratsa – Botevgrad - Sofia. Total length of road network in the municipality is 81 km from which 29 km are third and forth class roads.
Airports
30 km from village Novo selo (territory of Vidin municipality) there is an airport with landing- strip length 2 030 m and width 40 m which was closed in 1998 because of unremunerativeness. The airport is with preserved technical control systems and possibility for reconstruction. The distance between this airport and Sofia airport is 220 km.
Ports
Port Vidin-north is situated near the ferryboat and Free Trading Zone. It is 42 km water way from Novo selo village.
Water- supply
Novo selo municipality has well constructed water- supply system. The populated areas are supplied with water from 3 (three) reservoirs and 2 (two) water- supply pumping stations. All populated areas in the municipality are water- supplied.
Drainage system
From the populated areas in the municipality only Novo selo village is with constructed rain drainage. There are no constructed purification stations.
Built- up areas in populated parts
Built- up area is 14% towards the not built- up one. The municipality’s territory is not affected from landslides except Yasen village.
Telephones
There are 1710 stationary telephones with three central telephone exchanges.
Education
There are 9 schools on the territory of the municipality - 5 kindergarten, 3 schools and children’s home. On the territory of the municipality there are active kindergartens and which are 5 total, three high schools in Negovanovtsi, Vinarovo and Novo selo and a children’s home in Novo selo village. The children in the home are from 6 to 18 years old.
Health service
Novo selo municipality can be an example of successfully implemented health service system. On the territory of the municipality there are registered doctors on general practice as follows: primary out of hospital help – 4, specialized dental help– 2. There is one pharmacy in the municipality.
Culture
There is one community centre in Novo selo municipality with amateur team who support and carry local traditions.
Economy
There is a wine- cellar and a workshop for wine bottling “Novoselska gamza” PLC – Vidin on the territory of the municipality. In the same village there is labour production cooperation “Raketa” for wool manufacturing and figured fabric. In the villages Vinarovo and Negovanovtsi there is a private oil- factory. There is dressmaking and tailoring workshop in Vinarovo village.
Agriculture
Novo selo is an agricultural region with potential and traditions in wine- growing and grain producing.
Principal water thoroughfare is river Danube. The underground waters in the region are with direct hydraulic connection with river Danube as the level depends on the water positions of the river.

• Development of agriculture
• Grain producing is one of the main aims for the development of the municipality. Mostly high- stem wine varieties are cultivated “Cabernet”, “Merlot”, “Gamza” and “Rkatsiteli”. It can be a real till 2006 on the territory of the municipality to be planted about 10 000 000 km² grain and about 6 000 000 km² can be restored by financing from SAPARD programme.
