Climate and terrain
The geographical position determines the moderate continental climate with comparatively cold winter and hot summer with not enough rain. The average temperature per year is 11.2 С, as the hottest is July with average temperature 23.1 С, and the coldest– January –1.7 С. The rainfall is relatively well distributed in the seasons, whereas in the low part of the region it is about 550-600 mm/m2, and in the higher regions it reaches 750 mm/m2. Their bad distribution among the different years is unfavorable often with lasting dry ups. There is snow cover during about 50 days in the winter and it is more lasting in the mountain regions of Balkan mountain, where the climate is humid and is favorable for the development of vegetation. Predominating winds are from northwest, but in the winter they are often from east- northeast.

The region includes wide areas: fields, hills and small forests with varied relief. From northeast to northwest parts of the following morphographic units take turns: Danube hill plain, Pre Balkan and Main Balkan range, which lead to increasing the sea level of the relief in the same direction. The large riverside lowlands are one of the most fertile lands turned in arable areas for growing various agricultures. The region of Pre Balkan begins from Vrashka Chuka and spreads to the outskirts of the Balkan mountain. The best outlined heights here are the Rabisha hill (461 m) and a hill called Belogradchishki venets (1125 m), set up by solid limestone and cut by the tributaries of Lom River. In this part of the Prebalkan surface and underground karsts forms (caves- about 30) are widely spread and the underground hydrography connected with them. The most beautiful is the Cave of Magura, situated to the northwest of the village of Rabisha at the Rabisha Hill (Belogradchik Municipality). The Balkan mountain represents climatic barrier and influences the regime of flow of the rivers, rising from it.
